Commercial Quality Material
This is material produced for general purpose applications. A particular grade of Commercial Quality (CQ) metal will have the same chemistry as the same grade that is considered “Aircraft Quality,” however no special testing has been performed for certification in aircraft or aerospace uses. Most CQ materials will be defined with ASTM or similar standards.
-
Dual Phase Steel
Is a high-strength steel that has a ferritic-martensitic microstructure. Such steels are characterized by good formability and strength and have applications primarily in the automobile industries. Docol® is considered a Dual Phase steel
-
Ductility
This refers to the ability of a material to deform or undergo a change of form without breaking or fracturing.
-
E-Plane – Easy Plane
The description of orientation of a rectangular tube bend. I.e., bending a 2” x 3” tube against the 3” side.
-
Elongation
This refers to the increase in length which occurs before a metal is fractured, when subjected to stress. Usually expressed as a percentage of the original length and is a measure of the ductility of the metal.
-
End Forming
Altering the shape of the end of a tube to allow a slip fit to mate with another tube of same of different size.
-
Fatigue Strength
This refers to the maximum stress that a material can withstand for a specified number of cycles without failure or breaking.
-
FC/TF
For manufactures of Top Fuel and Nitro Funny Cars – A.E.D. METAL PRODUCTS maintains inventory specifically to meet or exceed the SFI specifications for mechanical and chemistry characteristics of 4130 alloy tube.
